Ph.D. Positions Available
I am seeking Ph.D. students interested in optimization theory, with an emphasis on optimization over manifolds. Our research focuses on developing algorithms and establishing rigorous mathematical guarantees for their performance. Students should be enthusiastic about the mathematical foundations of optimization and the sustained work involved in theoretical research.
Requirements
- Considerable experience with proof-based mathematics.
- Strong performance in a course on writing mathematical proofs and/or in linear algebra and real analysis. Strong Putnam or national math, physics, or informatics olympiad results can substitute for this background.
- A GRE Quantitative score of at least 168. Students with scores below 168 are discouraged from applying.
- An interest in pursuing a research career in academia or a research laboratory.
Funding
These positions include full tuition, a stipend, and fringe benefits.
How to Contact Me
Please email me at dhgutman@tamu.edu with the subject line Bunburry.
Your email should address each requirement above.
